The story of the Dohnányi Quartet began in 2003, at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. They started their work under the guidance of Géza Németh and the Bartók Quartet; a musical journey they progressed with unchanged enthusiasm, inspired by the richness of the string-quartet canon, their musical curiosity and the joy of playing together. When performing, Rondo gladly connects quartets with lesser-known pieces, weaving their concerts’ narrative into imperceptible threads of connections.
Since 2017, the string quartet has been presenting a series of concerts at the BMC library. Their first album debuted in January 2018, with two quartet pieces of Ernő Dohnányi. Through their career, they have performed together with Ferenc Rados, Gyula Stuller, Gábor Csalog, Zoltán Fejérvári, and the Bartók Quartet.

On show:
Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in d minor (Op. 76/2, “Quinten”)
Aaron Copland: Two Pieces for String Quartet
Leos Janaček: 2nd String Quartet (“Intimate letters”)
Rondo Quartet performs a 3-chapter concert series at the BMC Library this year. All three performances will play selected pieces from the quartet-composer, Joseph Haydn’s last final series, the Erdődy quartets. These are to be followed by two intriguing sidetracks: Janaček’s string quartets complemented with a transcribed piano cycle. These are unique both in terms of form and instrumentalization and provide colourful examples for American composers’ (Ives, Copland, Cage) way of touching on chamber music organic to European culture.
Admission is free.
